Henry Martin does it again! Having been a submariner during the Cold War, I relate to his stories and know that they can, indeed, happen quite easily and quickly. This one is no exception. Who knows, it might have already happened! You'll never know! Read it!
Well written book giving us an eye into the cold war and the silent service. Demonstrates the coldness of the Russian mentality towards anyone doing something that would questioning there capabilities. Good short read, however it left me wanting for more.
I was hopeful to get another good submarine storey with some character development and plot development and ended up with a "Readers Digest my memorable event story". The submarine operations were accurate enough (I am a former submarine officer) but the characters were trite and the author was pandering to the reader
The plot is good. The prose is good. The book is brief.
This really isn't a book, it's a short story. The online page makes that clear *if* you're reading it on a computer. If you're reading it on a (or a Fire) it isn't. The book measures 54 pages. Be prepared and you'll like it just fine.
Having read numerous WW2 books on submarine warfare, I was intrigued with a present day take on submariners. I was not disappointed! The author has obviously spent some time in the Navy. This is a short story about a sub crisis involving multiple countries. It puts you there in the captains shoes as he juggles his orders, career and conscience. It gets you from the start and keeps you riveted. Wish it was longer.
Anything to do with submarines, interests me. I would guess, at a younger age, if I had not chosen the profession that I did, I certainly would have considered a life with one of the military units, army, airforce or navy. If I had chosen the Navy, I certainly would have considered a life on a submarine. Its too bad that i am now too old, so therefore, I will just have to look for books such as this, to make me live the live.
This short story obviously written by a true "bubblehead". The action, emotions and story line keep you turning pages. This story could easily be adapted into a movie which I would gladly pay to see. I am a US Navy veteran and served aboard a submarine rescue ship during the Vietnam Era (USS Tringa ASR-16). Surface craft are not nearly as exciting as submarines but I got closer than most. Great story.
